To delete a note, select &#8220;More options\u2026&#8221; \u2192 &#8220;<strong>Delete file<\/strong>&#8221; at the top right of an active note. However, the Trash is empty. Where does Obsidian dump the note?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important to note that<strong> I didn&#8217;t install Obsidian on my Mac&#8217;s internal hard drive<\/strong>. <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-3-color\">I installed it on an external hard drive<\/mark><\/strong>. This is where the problem lies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obsidian dumped the note into the system trash within that (external drive) volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-3-color\">Accessing trash within a volume<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A. Go to Go &gt; Go to Folder<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C. Type the path to the specific volume&#8217;s trash folder, e.g., \/Volumes\/ExternalDrive\/.Trashes\/501\/ (replace &#8220;ExternalDrive&#8221; with the actual volume name, and the number might be different)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D. Enter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There it is, a note that Obsidian has deleted. I deleted the notes <em>manually<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can I use this method for another application installed in an external drive?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I learned here is not only about Obsidian and how it relates with Mac OS system trash. You can also use the method above to check if an application you installed on an external hard drive dumped (deleted) files to the system Trash located on the volume where the application resides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Note: I&#8217;m using Mac OS Sequioa 15 when writing this blog., I also using Obsidian 1.8.10<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The author shares their experience using the Obsidian application for note-taking on a Mac, highlighting an issue with deleted notes.
