Moving files and folders with Keyboard in Mac

There’s no easy way to move files and folder in Mac. Something that I knew when I migrated from Windows and Mac.After I learned about Keyboard Shortcuts,I found that there are ways to moving files and folder with keyboard in Mac.

First, we must open Window where file(s) or folder(s) you want to move it to. Press Command – N to open New Finder Window.

This method involving drag and drop with mouse and hold Command key whilst doing it. Just hold Command key while dragging the file or the folder to another volume (in New Finder Window that you opened above). That’s it.

There is another method involving mouse too, but this one is using Option key instead. Select the file or the folder we want to move, then press Command – C. Navigate to the folder (in New Finder Window that you opened above) where you want to move file(s) or folder(s). Hold the Option key and right-click the mouse then select “Move Item”.

Another way is using keyboard shortcuts WITHOUT MOUSE unlike above method. First, you must copy the file or the folder using keyboard shortcuts Command – C. Then navigate to the folder (in New Finder Window that you opened above) where you want to move file(s) or folder(s). Finally, press Command-Option-V.

What do you think about moving files or folders with keyboard (and a mouse) on a Mac? Personally I like the one without mouse, because it is almost similar to copy and paste in text, Command – C to copy the Command – V to paste with extra Option key to move, easy to remember that way.

Note: I’m using Mac OS Sequioa 15 when writing this blog
