iCloud Find My

How to fix Location Not Found iCloud Find My

I checked Find My in iCloud and discovered that it couldn’t pinpoint the location of my Mac Mini (it’s a Mac desktop, of course) even though Location Services was enabled. I Googled for information on how to fix this and found the solution in an unexpected place. Before I share the solution, I want to point out that Find My in iCloud is enabled but Wake for Network Access is disabled. Additionally, it’s been quite some time since I checked Apple Find My, let alone iCloud Find My, so it’s been over 7 days since its last location was sent to Apple.

I found an Apple Support page about locating a device in Find My on Mac.
When I checked iCloud Find My, the Mac Mini only showed “No location found” meaning the device can’t be located. This was very confusing, as there’s usually information about the Mac Mini’s location. Even when I tried playing a sound, it still said “No location found.”

It turned out the solution was to get directions to a device on the Apple Support page. So I followed the instructions,

  1. Go to the Find My app  on your Mac.
  2. Click Devices, select the device you want to get directions to, then click the Info button on the map.
  3. Click Directions. The Maps app  opens with the directions from your location to the device’s current location.

Suddenly, iCloud Find My updated the Mac Mini’s location. That was it.

Note: This only works if you still have access to your Mac Mini. If you want iCloud Find My to automatically track your Mac Mini (tracking from iCloud Find My – not from your Mac Mini), of course, follow these steps.
